I am greeting you on behalf of multinational Bashkortostan!
In 2007 our Republic celebrated an important historical event — the 450th anniversary of voluntary accession of Bashkiria to the Russian State. History showed that the decision by our ancestors was wise and far-sighted. It laid solid foundation for friendship between Russian and Bashkir people and launched the process of cooperation and mutual cultural enrichment among Slavic, Turkic and other ethnic groups, between Christians and Moslems. It also stimulated the elaboration of the national relations policy with due consideration to the ethnic diversity of Russia.
The history of Bashkortostan has become an inalienable and important part of the Russian history. That was the reason why this anniversary pursuant to the Decree by Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, was celebrated at the federal level.
Bashkortostan supports the UNESCO ideals aimed at maintaining the unity of the world in all its diversity, promoting democratic principles, human rights and protection of the environment. We consider that it is important to render all available support to national traditions and customs, language and culture. Such an approach under the globalization would enable nations to safeguard their distinctive features while integrating at the same time in the world community.
The initiative by Bashkortostan to have an international presentation on the UNESCO platform is another proof of the motivation that our Republic has in enhancing cooperation with UNESCO. The paramount purpose of this manifestation is to present to the world community rich and colourful culture of Bashkortostan, a centre of world heritage showing an example of inter-ethnic and inter-confessional accord, an economically developed region, and a deserving partners for friend all over the world.
Bashkortostan would gladly welcome everyone who would like to get a feel of its nature and soul, see its economic potential and get acquainted with its diligent and hospitable people!
