Musician, famous jazz saxophonist. His musical career began in Ufa. Here he was born and studied at the local musical school (the piano class) and here he became fond of jazz. He was keen on Bashkir folklore and was one of the first musicians in Russia, who began advocating ethnic approach in jazz. Working with folk artists he mastered the technique of throat singing (“uzlyau”) and brought Bashkir cane flute in his jazz band. Today the name of Oleg Kireev is well-known abroad: he regularly plays in Europe at prestigious jazz festivals and on the best club stages, he works with famous jazzmen: Jean Tuasson, Dick Piers, Ray Alexander, Scott Hamilton, Steve Ellington and others. His music is broadcasted by leading radio stations and TV-shows in Russia and abroad.
The western press calls Oleg Kireev a “revolutionary Russian musician”: he brings innovations in already known styles and combines jazz standards with exotic folklore, demonstrating unstained professionalism and improvising mastery. He enriches jazz with his personal emotional and very sincere perception.
