Was a great Russian singer (bas-baritone) and actor, was born on February 1 (13) 1873.
As a singer, he was practically a self-taught person but when he was 17, he successfully played at the opera stage in the opera “The Singer from Palermo” by A. Zamara in Ufa in 1890. Ufa seared into his soul. As he wrote about his Ufa period of life: “The success has finally strengthened the decision to devote myself to the theatre stage”.
Feodor Shalyapin sang in Saint-Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre and in Moscow private opera of Savva Mamontov in Moscow. He toured all over Europe with the great success and played on the stage of “Metropolitan-Opera” in New-York. Shalyapin left Russia in 1922 and settled in Paris.
